InfoShip® Centrally
Manageable
InfoShip is a hybrid application. It combines the speed and
reliability of a standard desktop application with the centrally manageable, fault
tolerant aspects of a web thin-client to create the perfect application
for the warehouse environment.
All custom aspects of the InfoShip
system are maintained on the server. Copies of resources such as
scripts and Behaviors are cached locally on the workstation for faster
start-ups over low-bandwidth connections. Local resources are
checked against the server for changes at startup. If any resource
has changed, only the modified resource is reloaded. Changes can be
implemented not only at startup, but also while InfoShip is running.
If a critical change is required to the business rules, such a change
can be dynamically pushed out from the server while InfoShip is
processing shipments--no need to stop processing and restart the
application.
Central Management Features:

Profile Based
All custom aspects of the InfoShip system are based on profiles.
This includes everything from field names, prompts, display order,
business rule execution, etc. If a workstation in the warehouse
goes down, simply install the InfoShip application on a new system and
point it to the DMS Server. Once a profile is chosen from the list
returned from the server the fresh InfoShip install will configure
itself accordingly. The workstation can be up and running within
minutes, minimizing downtime. Two typical profiles are LTL and
small parcel profiles. Profiles can also be used to distinguish
between warehouses when a central server is responsible for multiple
warehouses. |

XML
Configuration Stores
The entire configuration of a system--everything that makes the
particular InfoShip and DMS system unique to a particular customer--can
be exported from the server into file based in a simple XML format for
storage. If anything ever happened to the server and backup
server, a server configuration could be restored by simply importing
this configuration file into a new, empty DMS Server database. The
configuration in the screen shot to the left shows an XML configuration
file as it looks loaded into Microsoft XML Notepad. Since it is a
simple text file, it could also be opened, viewed, and edited with the
Windows Notepad application. |

DMS
Manager
The DMS Manager program allows for the monitoring of workstations
connected to the server. |
