Countdown to 2018

Posted by Rick Williams on Aug 21, 2017 1:57:29 PM

Yes, it’s mid-August and the temperatures are hovering steady in the 90s but the busy season and carrier rate updates will be here before we know it. Here are some warehouse management items to keep in the back of your mind as we wind down summer time.

InfoShip®/Vx Upgrades

All customers will need to be on InfoShip/Vx version 160 or higher before the end of December to be able to receive the carrier rate updates. If you are a FedEx shipper, this will include an upgrade to FedEx FSMS version 16 or FSWS (web services) version 2016. We will be reaching out to our customers impacted by this need over the next month. Please feel free to contact us directly if you would like to get this required upgrade scheduled sooner.

FedEx 2018 Rate Update

We expect the 2018 rates to become effective during the first week in January, although the exact date has not yet been released.  FedEx updates come down automatically during the nightly communication, therefore there is no effort required on your part to receive the new rates.

UPS 2018 Rate Update

While the exact date has not yet been announced, over the past several years, the UPS increase has been effective starting during the last full week of December. Once the rate update is available, CLS will prepare and distribute instructions on how to install the update.

USPS 2018 Rate Update

The Postal Service is expected to file its 2018 postage rate adjustment request with the Postal Regulatory Commission in September or October. It is projected that new rates would take effect January 21, 2018. If you are an Endicia.com shipper, these rates will come down automatically. Typically, in addition to any changes, USPS will update their Postal Forms, which means that an update will need to be applied to our non-Endicia USPS shippers.

If you have any questions about these updates, and how to prepare your shipping station, feel free to reach out us today. To learn more about optimizing your shipping process, download our free guide, "How to Set Up an Integrated Pack & Ship Station"
